What is GST?
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It has replaced multiple cascading taxes levied by central and state governments.
GST Components
GST is divided into three components:
- CGST (Central GST) - Collected by the Central Government
- SGST (State GST) - Collected by the State Government
- IGST (Integrated GST) - Collected for inter-state transactions
How to Calculate GST
GST Exclusive Calculation
When GST is added to the base price:
GST Amount = Base Price × (GST Rate / 100)
Total = Base Price + GST Amount
GST Inclusive Calculation
When GST is included in the total price:
Base Price = Total / (1 + GST Rate / 100)
GST Amount = Total - Base Price
